Ultrasound is being used increasingly for skin tightening, lifting and rejuvenation. One of its main benefits is that there is no downtime. It may also be referred to as microfocused ultrasound or high intensity focused ultrasound.
How does ultrasound treatment work?
When used to treat the skin, microfocused ultrasound energy is directed towards the dermis (the second layer of the skin), and this generates heat. This heat causes small areas of injury in the dermis. These injured areas are then stimulated to contract and regenerate, resulting in skin tightening and new collagen formation. There’s usually little to no downtime. Initial tightening may be evident in the weeks following treatment, but it can take several months to see the full effect.
