You may not have heard of bakuchiol, but it’s reported to be similar to retinol in its effect on the skin, without the irritation. Too good to be true? Read on!
What does it do?
Bakuchiol is derived from plants, and is said to be a functional analogue of retinol, meaning it acts like retinol on the skin. It’s an antioxidant, stimulates collagen production, reduces inflammation and also kills bacteria.
What are its benefits?
Bakuchiol improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation and acne; with less irritation than retinol.
It’s very gentle on the skin, so may be a good choice for those with sensitive skin who don’t tolerate retinol. It’s safe in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
How do I use it?
Apply once or twice daily, before moisturiser and sunscreen.
