Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition, which causes red, thickened, scaly areas of skin. Commonly affected sites include the elbows and knees, but psoriasis can affect any part of the body, including the scalp and nails. Some patients with psoriasis have a condition affecting the joints called psoriatic arthritis. Psoriasis is more common in those with relatives with the condition.
Whilst there is no cure for psoriasis, there are many different treatments, depending on what parts of the body are affected, and how widespread it is. Treatments include medicated creams, ultraviolet light therapy, tablets, and injections.
